Sharon Harrop - Executive Tender Writer |
Sharon has written hundreds of PQQs and tender responses and really knows how to bring a submission to life, ensuring that any submission stands above the competition in terms of its aesthetics and content. Sharon's ability to quickly grasp what a buyer is looking for is key to her success, particularly within the public sector where there is more to a submission than just pricing.
What aspect of Bid Writing do you enjoy most?
Creating submissions from scratch and having the freedom to produce something that is visually appealing. I really enjoy being able to show off my creative flair!
How do you approach writing tenders in an industry that is alien to you?
Speaking with the client is so important in order to understand their business and their industry. I will research everything from the company to their competitors by reading trade magazines and forums (in addition to hammering Google of course!). I find putting myself in their shoes helps a great deal and allows you to think logically about what challenges they face and how to overcome them. This is all part of our robust, tried and tested tender writing process.
What is your greatest professional strength?
I think my ability to quickly identify and understand a buyer's needs helps me to interpret how a client can meet them. This in turn enables me to document this in the tender submission.
What do you think is S2's greatest achievement to date?
S2 was one of the first companies to offer tender tender writing services. Since we started trading we have successfully doubled our turnover year on year and are still recognised as one of the market leaders.

Sarah Burgess - Executive Bid Writer |

In order to maximise the impact of her work she utilises her extensive business experience to identify the key selling points of the organisations S2 represent. Sarah's key strengths are her ability to produce creative and compelling content and her passion for delivering tangible results.
With regards to Bid Writing, what do you think is your area of expertise?
The ability to come up with unique text through creative writing. It enables me to produce a compelling response that gives it the best chance of winning.
What aspect of tendering gives you the most satisfaction?
Winning...that's why we're in this business! Knowing how much hard work has gone in to a submission and being really pleased with it is satisfying, especially when you know it has a very good chance of winning.
What is your approach to working with a client who has never tendered before?
Meeting a client face to face is something we try and do so long as there is sufficient time before the deadline. We look for their USPs that will benefit the buyer and really try and find out what sets them apart from their competitors. Also, taking the time to understand the operational aspect of their business makes us think logically when it comes to answering specific questions, particularly the technical side of things.
What is your proudest moment at S2?
Winning a place on the Arena Housing Framework for a new client. It was the first tender response we had written for them and they rewarded us by inviting us to their offices for Champagne and nibbles to celebrate. It was a great feeling and they have since recommended us to others on numerous occasions and it is something we never take for granted.
In 3 words, describe your approach to Bid Writing:
Planned. Creative. Effective.
What are your 5 favourite things away from S2?
- Ned (My Old English Sheepdog)
- Sky TV
- Lazy Sundays
